NodRaces

In the Land of Nod live many beings with souls of their own. Each race has particular characteristics and relationships to the ThreePaths.

Sethites are the decendants of Seth, and the primary race of humans in Nod, the baseline race. They may concentrate on any of the ThreePaths, or on none. As seth was late-born and did not have a twin to be his bride, Sethites have traces of animal heritage, often represented by certain animalistic virtues. Their human heritage is undeniably ascendant, however. Sethites, like Seth, are the "younger brother" race, and many see them as being more favored that such upstarts deserve. Sethites are unusually long-lived (Seth himself shows all signs of being immortal), with lifespans as much as two or three times that of other races, and some having life-prolonging magics allowing them to dwarf even those ages. Protracted childhood and growth allows Sethites to develop greater focus on their Occupation and Culture than other races do.

Cainites are the descendants of Caine, and still bear the lingering effects of Caine's curse. They all bear the Mark of Cain to a greater or lesser degree, represented as a Flaw that also has beneficial effects. It penalizes all attempts to gain sustinance, shelter, or make friends with non-cainites (including from the land) but augments such attempts with other cainites.

Cainites are cursed by God and shunned by His world. All they have is each other. How they react to this condition varries from culture to culture. Cainites may not concentrate on the PathOfRevelation, and their blood does not mix will with that of animals, making intermarriage with sethites even more difficult. For this reason, and because Cain did have a human bride, cainites are of pure human stock. Some consider this a point of pride.

Arovim still have enough human heritage to have their own souls (rather than simply partaking of the soul of their animal ancestor) but not enough to overwhelm their animal natures. All arovim have an AnimalKeyword, and most have the OfTwoAspectsTalent, the Talent which allows them to make their animal or human side more apparent. Those especially skilled in understanding this grey area can even appear as an animal to some, and a human being to others at the same time.

Arovim are prey to forceful instincts, and typically have strong personalities. Their savage nature makes it impossible for them to concentrate on the PathOfTheLaw, which requires discipline, abstract thought, or self-abnegation to degrees they are not capable of.

Nephilim are the descendants of the Grigori, "Those Who Watch" - Angels who went down to the earth to watch over humanity, and fell in love with the daughters of Eve, fathering a race of giants upon the earth. Nephilim are giants among men, and each is intimately bound to an aspect of the PathOfTheLaw. The heart of a nephilim is either a Grimoire or a Scripture (usually depending on whether they are male of female) and the words of the Law are etched on their skin as spell talisma. The voice of a nephilim is rich and resonant, full of hidden meaning.

All nephilim are heroes. There are no rank-and-file among them. The inherent strain of living in societies made for those (both literally and figuratively) smaller than them is a major racial theme. Reference to AngelicChoir, AngelicHost, FallenAngels.

Nephilim have one of the variants of the Nephilim MagicKeyword, and giving it up has Dire Consequences. However, Nephilin can always learn EssentialMagic at the non-focused cost, and typically use metals and heiroglyphics (that is, holy letters) for their EssentialMagic.

Lilim are the descendants of Lilith, who left the GardenOfEden before the exile because she was not willing to submit to Adam. Her descendants refuse to be bound or submissive, often to the point of death. They are the universal outsider, forming only loose connections and moving through, but never really among, others. The Lilim have their own special path to God, the PathOfTheLilim, which focuses on CommonMagic.

(Takes the PathOfTheLilim MagicKeyword.)

Reykim (takes a Reykim MagicKeyword, which is on the PathOfIncarnation, but can always use DevotionMagic)

Boabim (can't focus on the PathOfIncarnation)

Avdim (takes an Avdim MagicKeyword, which is on the PathOfRevelaion, but can always use CommunityMagic.)
